Coorg has this way of making you forget everything. The moment you step into those coffee-scented hills, with mist hanging low over the valleys and the sound of waterfalls somewhere in the distance, the city noise just fades away. And if you're already in Mysore, you're closer to all of that than most people realise.
A two-day trip from Mysore to Coorg is honestly one of the most satisfying short getaways you can plan in South India. It's not too far, not too expensive, and if you plan it right, you come back feeling like you actually travelled — not just passed through.
Here's everything you need to know, including a proper itinerary and what to expect on the cab costs.
The Drive from Mysore to Coorg
Planning a trip from Mysore to Coorg? With Mysore Travelo, you can book your cab quickly and hassle-free. The journey is about 118 km and takes around 2 hours and 40 minutes. The road is smooth for most of the way, passing through Hunsur and then climbing gently into the Kodagu district. It's not as dramatic as the Ooty ghat road, but it's a lovely drive — green, quiet, and easy on the stomach.
Most people head to Madikeri, which is the main town in Coorg and a good base for exploring. Some prefer staying near Kushalnagar or in one of the many estate resorts deeper in the hills. Either way, having your own Mysore to Coorg cab makes the whole thing seamless — you stop when you want, take the scenic detours, and don't depend on anyone else's schedule.
Day 1 – Getting There and Settling In
Leave Mysore early — ideally by 7 in the morning. You'll hit the road before traffic builds up, and the cool morning air makes the drive genuinely pleasant.
Stop at Hunsur for a quick breakfast at one of the local darshinis. Nothing fancy, just good filter coffee and hot idlis before the hills. From there, it's another hour or so to Madikeri.
Once you've checked in and freshened up, spend the afternoon at Abbey Falls. It's about 8 kilometres from Madikeri town, surrounded by coffee and spice plantations. The trail to the falls is short but atmospheric — coffee plants on both sides, the smell of cardamom in the air.
In the evening, head to Raja's Seat. It's a garden viewpoint right in Madikeri where the locals come to watch the sunset. On a clear day, the view across the hills is something else entirely. If it's cloudy — and in Coorg it often is — the mist rolling in is equally worth watching.
Dinner in Madikeri. Try the local Coorgi pork curry if you eat meat. It's a regional specialty and you won't find it quite like this anywhere else.
Day 2 – The Best of Coorg Before Heading Back
Wake up early on day two. Coorg mornings are genuinely special — cool, quiet, and usually misty. If your hotel or resort sits on an estate, just standing outside with a cup of tea counts as a proper experience.
After breakfast, head to Dubare Elephant Camp. It's about 25 kilometres from Madikeri, close to Kushalnagar. You can watch elephants being bathed in the Cauvery river in the mornings, and the whole setup is relaxed and family-friendly. Book the bathing activity in advance during peak season.
After Dubare, drive to Nisargadhama — a small island in the middle of the Cauvery, connected by a hanging bridge. It's a peaceful spot with bamboo groves and deer. Good for a quiet hour before lunch.
On your way back to Mysore, stop at the Bylakuppe Tibetan Settlement. It's one of the largest Tibetan refugee settlements outside Tibet, and the golden temple complex there — the Namdroling Monastery — is genuinely stunning. The prayer halls are open to visitors, and the atmosphere is calm in a way that's hard to describe.
From Bylakuppe, it's a straightforward drive back to Mysore. You should be home before dark.
